FAQ - number one - How do I get to Uruguay?

The Flight and Travel to Uruguay

There is a direct flight to Miami on American Airlines to the capital of Uruguay, Montevideo. This is the location of the international airport and where all the flights arrive and depart out of.

Montevideo is about 3.5 hours from the Fortin Duck Hunting Lodge. Fortin is located near the town of Chuy, Uruguay (northeast part of Uruguay).

For those that cannot make the trip from Miami - you can fly to Buenos Aires on any national carrier and then make a quick connection on a South American flight or the American Airlines flight that travels between Buenos Aires International and Montevideo.

Montevideo is the starting city for the Uruguay duck hunting at the Fortin Lodge.

FAQ - number two - Do I need a visa for Uruguay?

No, currently the only paperwork that US citizens need is a passport. Make sure your passport does not expire within 6 months of your stay in Uruguay.

FAQ - number three - Is it only Duck Hunting?

No - however it can be. Remember this is your Uruguay bird hunting trip - so you may choose to have a focus on duck hunting or add in Perdiz hunting.

The Uruguay Perdiz hunting season runs May through July. There is a limit of 10 Perdiz per hunter per day and the Perdiz hunts in Uruguay are either a morning hunt or an afternoon hunt combined with the Uruguay duck hunt.

FAQ - number four - Can I bring the ducks back for mounting?

Unfortunately no. The ducks cannot be taken out of Uruguay. It is against the law and with xrays and strict baggage screening regulations, we do NOT advise you even trying. Please check back as rules or regulations may change but at the current time NO ducks or birds may leave the country of Uruguay.

FAQ - number five - Do I bring my own shotgun? How?

If you would like to bring your own shotgun, you may. You simply complete a one page form with the gun details and the owner information (your information) and send it to the Los Gauchos office at least 30 days prior to departure.

FAQ - number six - Do you offer more than duck hunting at the Fortin Lodge in Uruguay?

The Fortin Lodge does offer Perdiz hunting during the Upland hunting season. The Perdiz hunting season in Uruguay is May 1st to July 31st. The daily rates are higher for the Perdiz - Duck hunting - please check with Los Gauchos for the current rates.

The Perdiz hunt is a great addition to the duck hunting. With setters or trained bird dogs, the walks in the short grass fields and the challenging shooting the quick Perdiz (a quail like bird) give wingshooters, you will find this an enjoyable hunting adventure when combined with the Uruguay duck hunting.

Weather - What will the weather be like at the Fortin Lodge and the Duck hunting?

The weather is cool and can get very cold for the morning duck hunts. Preparing with layers is the best way to travel and duck hunt in Uruguay. It is difficult to think thermal socks and wool fleece shirts when you are packing for your Uruguay duck hunt and it is 100 plus degrees in North America, but do pack for winter time.
